Night temperatures can fall to 5 deg. celcius in Eilat with daytime temps. up to 28 deg. in winter. As most of my vacuumed aquaria are outdoors, I have added heaters.
This glass tunnel links 2 40 liter aquariums. The right hand one has the heater.Circulation is provided by the water overflow tube returning to the reservoir. The algae growth reduced the return flow from the rh. tank increasing the temperaure differential between the 2 aquariums. The fish are Mollies. They are actively breeding in both temperature ranges. That is 9 deg. in the lh. and up to 23 deg. in the rh.They can and do travel freely from 1 tank to the other with no thermal shock.I’m not experienced in livebreading fish, but we all know the importance of aclimatizing new fish to the water in our aquariums.
The thermometer is a laser used in refrigeration/air conditioning to monitor spot temperature on systems.Very useful for checking return air supplies on ducts high up.

PetSmart, Inc. (NASDAQ: PETM) is the leading chain of retail stores doing business in the United States and Canada engaged in the sale of specialty pet supplies and services such as grooming and dog training, PetSmart PetsHotel dog and cat boarding facilities and Doggie Day Care. The name PetSmart was coined as a pun.
Petsmart History
PetSmart was founded in 1990 and opened its first Pet Food Warehouse stores in the Phoenix area the following year. Through several mergers and acquisitions, PetSmart expanded in the early- and late-1990s across the U.S. and into Canada, and entered online retailing through a partnership with Idealab in 1999.
In early 2000, PetSmart remodeled most of its store in a plan they called “Eagle” which changed many of its stores from a front-half storefront, back-half warehouse feel to an all-over standard retail market, in hopes of not intimidating customers.
In August 2005, the company announced that it was rebranding its name from PetsMart to PetSmart. This move is designed to emphasize its evolution from a pet supply store to a solutions-oriented company.
As of November 2007, PetSmart operated approximately 1,000 stores and about 150 locations with PetsHotels and Doggie Day Camps. Some PetSmarts are co-located with Banfield Pet Hospital verterinary offices.

Petsmart Dog products
PetSmart owns several brands that produce a variety of products. Grreat Choice, previously Award (although the Award name still appears as a selection of canned wet dog food), is a grocery line of dog food which PetSmart owns. Authority is a bridge dog food that PetSmart distributes. PetSmart also owns Bargain Hound, which produces crates and dog beds. Grreat Choice and Authority also produce lines of dog treats in a range of treat sizes and flavors.
Petsmart Cat products
PetSmart also owns several brands that produce cat products. Like dog food, PetSmart has a line of Authority cat food, available in canned and dry varieties. Similarly, Authority is considered a premium food. A second, lower price brand, Sophisticat, is PetSmart’s grocery cat food, which is also available in dry and wet varieties. Unlike PetSmart’s dog food brands, Grreat Choice (previously Award) is not distributed for cats. PetSmart also produces cat litter, under the name Exquisicat, as well as most litter related products. Toy Shoppe, which produces dog toys, also has a variety of cat toys.
Bird, fish and small animal products
PetSmart produces fish tanks, stands, and aquarium decorations under the Top Fin name. Top Fin also makes gravel, filters, heaters and other accessories, including starter kits that include several basic components. The former PetSmart label for store brand fish supplies was Proquatics. Bird products are created under the Top Wing label, and includes most items needed for birds, including cages, bowls, perches, and other products. PetSmart also has a small animal brand, named All Living Things.
In January, 2008, PetSmart voluntarily stopped selling live birds at all of its 785 stores in the US after the discovery of psittacosis in some cockatiels in their stores in December 2007. Psittacosis is an infection caused by a strain of bacteria closely related to chlamydia that can be transmitted from birds to humans and produces symtoms similar to the flu. PetSmart has now started selling live birds again as of about April, 2008.
Petsmart Horse products
Formerly, certain PetSmart stores included a State Line Tack section. It provided a wide selection of saddles, halters, bridles, saddle pads etc. State Line Tack also sold feed and other equipment for the care of horses.
In 2007, PetSmart put State Line Tack, including all catalog and internet business, up for sale and effectively removed all State Line Tack merchandise from stores. State Line Tack was eventually purchased by Horse.com, one of many websites owned by Pets United.

My new Betta- Calcifer in his Eclipse Hex 5 tank. I got him, his tank and supplies on December 27th 2008 with some of my christmas money and giftcards (Yes, I asked for Petsmart/Petco giftcards so I could get the little guy lol). He is a red and blue Crowntail Male Betta and his name came from my fav. character ‘Calcifer’ from the anime movie Howl’s Movie Castle. I thought he looked like Calcifer in the movie because my betta is red and blue like a fire like Calcifer is. For those of you who haven’t seen the movie, look it up if ya want =] Anyways, my Cal seems to be loving his new home!

Puget Systems Demo

Water cooling has always seemed useless to me, given the fact that I’m not too much of an overclocking fan. It also gives me the impression that water cooling would morph my computer into a car engine with pumps and impeller blades, and this is the last thing I would ask for.
No matter the picked up solution, system cooling seems to be on top of the wave nowadays, but what about decently cooking your entire gaming rig with some mineral oil? Sounds fun? Then have someone strap you on to the chair because the scenes you are about to see are extremely shocking if you are a computer enthusiast.
In order to get a “mineral-oil-cooled” system, you need some basic raw materials you might find in your garage: a transparent-plastic aquarium a little larger than a regular PC case, a motherboard tray to support your model of mobo, some old hardware you would care to sacrifice should anything go wrong (motherboard and power source), a patch of acrylic panel that will be the aquarium’s top lid and, of course, lots and lots of mineral oil. Some other household skills are welcome, but you may have a friend do all the dirty work for you.
All you have to do is assemble the computer system inside the aquarium, add some proper lighting, then pour all the mineral oil on top of the hardware. Don’t be afraid, it’s not gonna blow up, as mineral oil lacks electric conductive capacities, but it will surely render your hardware useless for other designs. Optionally, you can add an extra oxygen pump to create fish-tank-like bubbles, although your computer will do just fine without.

Local River, home storage unit
for fish and greens
by Mathieu Lehanneur with Anthony van den Bossche
The Locavores appeared in San Francisco in 2005 and define themselves as ‘a group of culinary adventurers who eat foods produced in a radius of 100 miles (160 km) around their city’. By doing so they aim to reduce impact on the environment inherent to the transport of foodstuffs, while ensuring their traceability.
Local River anticipates the growing influence of this group (the word ‘locavore’ made its first appearance in an American dictionary in 2007) by proposing a home storage unit for live freshwater fish combined with a mini vegetable patch. This DIY fish-farm-cum-kitchen-garden is based on the principle of aquaponics coupled with the exchange and interdependence of two living organisms - plants and fish. The plants extract nutrients from the nitrate-rich dejecta of the fish. In doing so they act as a natural filter that purifies the water and maintains a vital balance for the eco-system in which the fish live. The same technique is used on large-scale pioneer aquaponics/fish-farms, which raise tilapia (a food fish from the Far East) and lettuce planted in trays floating on the surface of ponds.
Local River responds to everyday needs for fresh food that is 100% traceable. It bets on a return to favour of farm-raised freshwater fish (trout, eel, perch, carp, etc…), given the dwindling supplies of many saltwater species due to over-fishing. It also demonstrates the capacity of fish-farmers to deliver their stock live to a private consumer as a guarantee of optimum freshness - impossible in the case of saltwater fish that has been netted.
Local River aims to replace the decorative ‘TV aquarium’ by an equally decorative but also functional ‘refrigerator-aquarium’. In this scenario, fish and greens cohabit for a short time in a home storage unit before being eaten by their keepers, the end-players in an exchange cycle within a controlled ecosystem.
